What is Naturopathic Medicine?

Naturopathic doctors (NDs) are trained as primary care providers who diagnose, treat and manage patients with acute and chronic conditions. NDs focus on treating the root cause of disease and take a whole-body and patient-centred approach to care.
NDs in Canada are regulated healthcare professionals licensed with the College of Naturopaths of Ontario. They obtain four years of naturopathic education at an accredited school after doing a minimum of three years in an undergraduate program.

The six principles of naturopathic medicine include:
1. Do no harm
2. The healing power of nature
3. Identify and treat the causes
4. Doctor as teacher
5. Treat the whole person
6. Prevention

What does naturopathic care look like?

At Total Health and Wellness Clinic, your naturopathic care will include a comprehensive assessment that takes a look at your health from all angles, focusing on your goals (both short-term and long-term).
Nothing in the body works in isolation, which is why we cover all areas of your health including hormones, sleep, digestion, food and nutrition, movement, stress, and more. Appropriate testing will be discussed and/or reviewed, knowledge gaps will be filled, and your treatment plan will be tailored to you, your experience, your goals, and the priorities we come up with together. Your individualized plan may include therapies such as:

- Food and nutrition counselling
- Strategic supplementation
- Herbs and botanical medicine
- Movement and exercise recommendations
- Lifestyle and mindset guidance
- General health tips
- Prescriptions for thyroid hormone, estrogen, or progesterone
- Vitamin injections (for e.g. B12 and vitamin D)
- Acupuncture
- Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture (see below)
- Referrals to other practitioners such as your GP or specialist, massage, chiro, physio, and more

Health is not a destination, but a journey, and we’d be honoured to walk alongside you.
